Welcome to the village of Halkirk and its Heritage & Vintage Motor Centre, a haven for the motor enthusiast and lover of social history alike. There is nothing else like it in the Far North! We are seven miles from the North Coast 500 route, directly south of the town of Thurso.

The Centre, which opened at Easter 2022, is owned and run by Halkirk Heritage & Vintage Motor Society (established 2006). The Society holds charity status (SCO46910) and is staffed entirely by volunteers.

In August 2024 the Society became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) SC053603

The old school

In the Old School and huge new extension to the rear you will find:

  • Exhibition Of Motoring
    Vintage and Classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, books, and memorabilia... truly wonderful collection for the Far North. A hands on experience - sit in the cars, take photos, make memories!
  • Heritage Room
    Packed with artifacts giving a taste of bygone life in the Highlands.
  • A Garage Through Time
    Established in 2023 in what was our storeroom. This display will continue to grow as more bits and pieces find their way through the door. If you’ve got it and don't want it, this garage can take it!
  • Reading Room
    Full of local and Caithness social history in artifacts, photos and documents – treasure for the family historian!
  • Exhibition Room
    Themed annually.
  • Reception
    Postcards, books, and hot beverages for sale.

The items on display throughout the Centre are subject to change. What you see this year may not be on show next year – items are put away for a while, all awaiting their turn to be back on show.



Who do we cater for?

  • The family historian – help is at hand for information from local family history enthusiasts
  • Wheelchair users and those with limited mobility – entrance and parking to the side of the building
